English Support

 

Student literacy is a curriculum priority at Dandenong West Primary School. Students from Prep - Year 6 are supported within the classroom by literacy programs based on the Victorian Curriculum. Students who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) are assisted by a classroom literacy program that references the Victorian EAL Continuum.

Students across the school also benefit from the assistance of the school’s Reading Growth program conducted by Education Support staff under the direction of an experienced teacher. Children work individually or in pairs with reading staff in 30 minute withdrawal lessons 3-5 times per week to improve their reading, writing and phonics skills.
